Dibujantes: Tommy Bagley.

1- Introduce yourself as an introduction. Who is Tommy Bagley?

I am an illustrator, art instructor and musician from Calgary Canada.

1- Preséntate a ti mismo ¿Quién es Tommy Bagley? Soy ilustrador, instructor de arte y músico de Calgary Canadá.

2- What came first in your life? the music or the drawing?

I was introduced to both at an early age so I don't even remember! My older brother drew all the time so I thought that was just something you did as a kid, like playing with Hot Wheels or Lego. It was another toy.

My dad was a big jazz fan, so there were always records playing, some of which I really liked, like the Neil Hefti Batman album and some stuff by Henry Mancini and James Bond soundtracks.

2- ¿Qué llego primero a tu vida? ¿La música o el dibujo? Me presentaron a ambos a una edad temprana, ¡así que ni siquiera recuerdo! Mi hermano mayor dibujaba todo el tiempo, así que pensé que era algo que hacía cuando eras niño, como jugar con los Hot Wheels o un Lego. Era otro juguete. Mi padre era un gran fanático del jazz, así que siempre había discos, algunos de los cuales me gustaron mucho, como el álbum de Neil Hefti Batman y algunas de las bandas sonoras de Henry Mancini y James Bond.

3- when and how do you find your style? and from when do you consider yourself a professional?

It took a while. I wanted to draw in a goopy underground/Heavy Metal style like most comic art fans my age, but it ended up going into a cleaner commercial style initially influenced by 50s animation.
This seemed popular with art directors and editors, so I was able to get a lot of work. I seem to be sliding back into a goopier underground style though as I get older (and get less work)!

3- ¿Cuándo y cómo encuentras tu estilo? ¿Y desde cuándo te consideras un profesional? Se tomó un tiempo. Quería dibujar en un estilo Goopy underground / Heavy Metal como la mayoría de los fanáticos del arte cómico de mi edad, pero terminó convirtiéndose en un estilo comercial más limpio inicialmente influenciado por la animación de los 50. Esto parecía popular entre los directores de arte y los editores, así que pude conseguir mucho trabajo. ¡Parece que me estoy deslizando de nuevo hacia un estilo goopier underground a medida que envejezco (y trabajo menos)!

4- you prefer the color before the black and white. why?

Colour usually means I'm getting paid more! I like colour more these days because it's easier now to play around and try interesting things with a computer than it was decades ago.

I do enjoy black and white as well. Depends on the project.

Me gusta más el color en estos días porque ahora es más fácil jugar y probar cosas interesantes con una computadora que hace décadas. Yo también disfruto del blanco y negro. Depende del proyecto.

5- How is the scene in Calgary?

Dusty. I'm kind of an old-guard character now, and don't really mix with other artists or musicians apart from old friends and people in my band. I prefer the company of my dog.

6- Try other graphic arts?

I teach children's art classes through the City of Calgary, so I occasionally have to mix in some clay projects and painting on textiles, but I'm mostly the Cartoon Guy.

7- you have a band I listened to 2 albums on Spotify. but there are more. Tell us what you can about the band.

My band is Forbidden Dimension, which I have had since 1988 and we have 9 full-length releases, 2 of which are compilations of singles or demos.

We play fun garage punk mixed with 70s hard rock riffs and a bit of surfy stuff. All the lyrical themes tend to be on the creepy side.

Mi banda es Forbidden Dimension, que he tenido desde 1988 y tenemos 9 lanzamientos completos, 2 de los cuales son compilaciones de singles o demos. Tocamos punk divertido del garage mezclado con riffs de hard rock de los 70 y un poco de cosas de surfy. Todos los temas líricos tienden a estar en el lado espeluznante.

8- What are your favourite bands? and what was the best concert you saw?

I grew up on The Sweet, KISS, Blue Öyster Cult, the Damned, Stooges, Maiden, Priest etc. I also had the Nuggets album, so I loved old 60s punk stuff.

These days I listen to Japanese bands like Seikima II, Ningen Isu, Takashi Terauchi and Inugami Circus-Dan.

Best concert was probably Twisted Sister and Maiden in '85, the waning days of my initial heavy metal phase! I got to see Screamin' Jay Hawkins in the early 90s and really loved that show.

8- ¿Cuáles son tus bandas favoritas? ¿Y cuál fue el mejor concierto que viste? Crecí con The Sweet, KISS, Blue Öster Cult, The Damned, Stooges, Maiden, Priest, etc. También tenía el álbum de Nuggets, así que me encantaban las viejas cosas punk de los años 60. En estos días escucho bandas japonesas como Seikima II, Ningen Isu, Takashi Terauchi e Inugami Circus-Dan. El mejor concierto fue probablemente Twisted Sister and Maiden en el '85, ¡los últimos días de mi fase inicial de heavy metal! Pude ver a Screamin 'Jay Hawkins a principios de los 90 y realmente me encantó ese programa.

9- How are your illustrations developed? from the idea to the final result?

I do a lot of pencil scribbling and tracing of pencil scribbles with more pencil scribbling. Eventually I will ink, then scan and colour. My recycle bin is always full of discarded pencil artwork.

9- ¿Cómo se desarrollan tus ilustraciones? ¿De la idea al resultado final? Hago muchos garabatos a lápiz y trazo de garabatos con más garabatos a lápiz. Eventualmente voy a entintar, luego escanear y colorear. Mi papelera de reciclaje siempre está llena de ilustraciones de lápiz desechadas.

10- and like the work of other cartoonists? which?

I grew up loving Druillet, Moebius, the EC Comics guys, Berni Wrightson and esp. Gahan Wilson and Charles Addams, Gary Panter, Kaz, Charles Burns and Johnny Ryan spring to mind...

If I have to do commercial work, I'll get in the mood by looking at 50s animation design and stuff like 80s Serge Clerc and Ever Meulen.

I also love some Japanese manga like Go Nagai, Shigeru Mizuki and Hideshi Hino. The usual suspects!

10- ¿Seguis el trabajo de otros dibujantes? ¿quienes son? Crecí amando a Druillet, Moebius, los chicos de EC Comics, Berni Wrightson y especialmente. Gahan Wilson y Charles Addams, Gary Panter, Kaz, Charles Burns and Johnny Ryan son los que me vienen a la cabeza. Si tengo que hacer un trabajo comercial, entraré en el estado de ánimo mirando el diseño de animación de los 50 y cosas como las de los 80 Serge Clerc y Ever Meulen. También me encantan algunos manga japoneses como Go Nagai, Shigeru Mizuki y Hideshi Hino. ¡Los sospechosos de siempre!

11- work drawing for other bands?

Chixdiggit, Huevos Rancheros (back in the olden days), Man or Astroman, lots of local bands. Nobody too famous.
