Hoy con mucho placer mantendremos una entrevista con Benjamin, un dibujante de esos que mantienen un estilo Old School en sus ilustraciones. Un dibujante que no solo hacevretratos de bandas, flyers, posters sino que tambien ha dibujado para bandas del Underground por algunos continentes. Asi que sin mas vueltas comiencemos este articulo con una presentacion...

1- de donde sos, donde vivis y como es un dia normal en tu vida?
1-    where are you from, where do you live and what is a normal day like in your life?

R. Siempre he vivido en Aguascalientes, México, para ser mas especifico en uno de sus municipios llamado Calvillo. Un día normal en mi vida creo que es bastante aburrido, siempre hago lo mismo, paso mucho tiempo con mis mascotas, escuchando música, viendo películas y jugando videojuegos, trato de dibujar todos los días cualquier cosa para seguir practicando y como una forma de entretenerme.
A. I have always lived in Aguascalientes, Mexico, to be more specific in one of its municipalities called Calvillo.
A normal day in my life I think it is quite boring, I always do the same, I spend a lot of time with my pets, listening to music, watching movies and playing video games, I try to draw every day anything to keep practicing and as a way to entertain myself.

2- te acordas si empezaste escuchando musica o dibujando?
2-     Do you remember if you started listening to music or drawing?

R. Dibujando supongo, empecé desde muy niño me gustaban las caricaturas, comics y todo ese tipo de cosas, además de que varios de mis hermanos mayores también lo hacían por lo mismo desarrollé el gusto, fue muy después cuando comencé a relacionar mis dibujos con la música que escuchaba.
R. Drawing I suppose, I started from a very young age I liked cartoons, comics and all that kind of things, in addition to that several of my older brothers also did it for the same thing I developed the taste, it was very later when I began to relate my drawings with
The music I listened to.

3- como es la escena underground en tu ciudad?
3-     how is the underground scene in your city?

R. A decir verdad no estoy muy involucrado en la escena de por aquí, cuando empecé a dibujar para bandas era completamente local, bandas de amigos, y de hecho los primeros trabajos que hice fueron para este tipo de bandas, mas que nada como favores para apoyar al mismo movimiento. Después de un tiempo y según lo que e visto la escena ha crecido muy poco, hay mucho metal y casi nada de punk, y honestamente no es el tipo metal que a mí me gustaría oír jaja.
A. A to tell you the truth, I am not very involved in the scene around here, when I started drawing for bands it was completely local, bands of friends, and in fact the first works I did were for this type of bands, mostly as favors to support the same movement.
After a while and according to what I have seen the scene has grown very little, there is a lot of metal and almost no punk, and honestly it is not the metal type that I would like to hear haha.

4- cuales son las bandas mexicanas que recomendarias a quienes viven en otros sitios?
4-     what are the Mexican bands that you would recommend to those who live in other places?

R. De las bandas que yo conozco podría nombrar a Massacrator, Vönbastard, Kalaveraztekah, Intoxxxicated, Charged SS, Hellcharger, Violet Magick, Coäccion, Disterror, Hellmaiztros, Alfonso Sayaz, Sacrificio, Podrido, Diabetica, Dios Perro, Munchner Hell y Acidez, aunque creo que ya son bastante conocidos internacionalmente.
A. Of the bands that I know I could name Massacrator, Vönbastard, Kalaveraztekah, Intoxxxicated, Charged SS, Hellcharger, Violet Magick, Coäccion, Disterror, Hellmaiztros, Alfonso Sayaz, Sacrifice, Rotten, Diabetic, God Dog, Munchner Hell and Acidez, although I think they are already well known internationally.

5-     cuales son tus bandas favoritas?
5-     what are your favorite bands?

R. Tengo muchas, sin especificación de género o en un orden particular creo que Misfits, In Solitude, The Damned, The Clash, Natur, Motörhead, SNFU, Ramones, Samhain, T.S.O.L, The Exploited, G.B.H, Discharge, Amebix, Satan's Satyrs, Anti Cimex, Gorilla Biscuits, Fu Manchu, Imperial State Electric, Bathory, Minor Threat, Iron Lamb, Cock Sparrer, The Adicts, Broken Bones, Sham 69, Cro-Mags, Enforcer, At The Drive In, Dropkick Murphys, Subvision, Toxic Holocaust, Inepsy, Darkthrone, The Jam, Tiger Army, Neil Young, Those Poor Bastards, Germs, MC5, Black Flag, Zeke, Tokyo Blade, Tank, por mencionar algunas.
A. 6- cuales son las artes plasticas en las que mas comodo te encuentras?
6-     what are the plastic arts in which you are most comfortable?

R.  Con el dibujo definitivamente, siempre usando uno o dos colores máximo, me gusta terminar rápido mis proyectos y no creo tener el tiempo ni la paciencia para dedicarme a pintar, por ejemplo, aunque también me gustaría aprender más sobre arte digital. 
A. With drawing definitely, always using one or two colors maximum, I like to finish my projects quickly and I don't think I have the time or patience to devote to painting, for example, although I would also like to learn more about digital art.

7- seguis a otros dibujantes? Quienes son?
7-    do you follow other artists?
Who are they?

R.  Me gusta mucho el trabajo de artistas como Pushead, Shawn Kerri, Marc Rude, Mark Riddick, Dennis Dread, Arik Roper, Timo Ketola, Michel Langevin, Andrei Bouzikov, Halseycaust, Joe Petagno, James Von Sinn, Chris Shary, Zé Burnay, Alan Forbes, Jimbo Philips, Mike Ploog, David Paul Seymour, Dilek Baykara, Jack C. Gregory, Adam Burke, Sean Mcgrath, también las ilustraciones de Gustave Doré me han inspirado para varios de mis trabajos. 
A. I really like the work of artists like Pushead, Shawn Kerri, Marc Rude, Mark Riddick, Dennis Dread, Arik Roper, Timo Ketola, Michel Langevin, Andrei Bouzikov, Halseycaust, Joe Petagno, James Von Sinn, Chris Shary, Zé Burnay, Alan Forbes, Jimbo Philips, Mike Ploog, David Paul Seymour, Dilek Baykara, Jack C. Gregory, Adam Burke, Sean Mcgrath, also Gustave Doré's illustrations have inspired me for several of my works.

8- cual fue el mejor concierto que viste en tu vida? Te acordas porque?
8- what was the best concert you saw in your life? Do you remember why?

R. La verdad no he ido a muchos conciertos, al último que asistí fue hace unos meses, se presentó Michale Graves ex vocalista de Misfits en Guadalajara, y de cualquier forma creo que es uno de los mejores que veré en mi vida.
A. The truth is that I have not been to many concerts, the last one I attended was a few months ago, Michale Graves was a former Misfits vocalist in Guadalajara, and anyway I think he is one of the best I will see in my life.

9- donde se han expuesto tus ilustraciones?
9-     where have your illustrations been exhibited?

R. Yo no pienso que mi trabajo sea demasiado profesional, mas bien creo que es una actividad amateur, un pasatiempo, por lo que hasta ahora solo se pueden ver mis trabajos en las portadas para discos que eh hecho, diseños de playeras o flyers.
A. I do not think that my work is too professional, rather I think it is an amateur activity, a hobby, so until now you can only see my work on the covers for albums that I have done, designs of t-shirts or flyers.

10- que diferencias ves entre el Rock de hace 30 años atras con respecto al de hoy en dia?
10-   What differences do you see between Rock 30 years ago compared to today?

R. Bastantes, una de las primeras cosas que pienso cuando escucho a bandas de los 80’s o 70’s es que su sonido en su época era original e innovador, no por nada en esos tiempos se consolido el punk rock y el metal, hoy en día cuando escucho una banda de cualquier genero me doy cuenta de que su sonido y lo que representa es muy parecido a otras bandas, que no siempre es malo porque por algo las escuchamos, pero si creo que en estos tiempos es muy difícil sacar algo original, lo mismo se puede aplicar para el arte, por ejemplo en el dibujo no es algo muy común que lleguen artistas que te presenten técnicas e ideas nuevas, ya todo se ha visto.
R. Enough, one of the first things I think about when I listen to bands from the 80's or 70's is that their sound was original and innovative at the time, and punk rock and metal were not consolidated at that time, nowadays
when I listen to a band of any genre I realize that its sound and what it represents is very similar to other bands, which is not always bad because of something we listen to them, but if I think that in these times it is very difficult to get something original,
the same can be applied to art, for example in drawing it is not very common for artists to come to present you with new techniques and ideas, everything has already been seen.

R. Mas que nada para bandas underground de diferentes partes del mundo entre ellas están Toxik Shokk, Blizzard, Burstin’ Out, Herida Profunda, Witchrite, Invierno Nuclear, Acidez, Demencia Alkoholika, Who Gives a Fuck, Local Retards, NightPröwler, Lakras, Vönbastard, ASS, Kaschorros Wiciados, Bombshell, Nitrocharge, Doomentor, Vermin Warfare, Dulvel, entre otras.
A. More than anything for underground bands from different parts of the world among them are Toxik Shokk, Blizzard, Burstin 'Out, Deep Wound, Witchrite, Nuclear Winter, Heartburn, Dementia Alkoholika, Who Gives a Fuck, Local Retards, NightPröwler, Lakras,
Vönbastard, ASS, Kasiciaros Wiciados, Bombshell, Nitrocharge, Doomentor, Vermin Warfare, Dulvel, among others.

12- como seria tu vida sin arte y musica?
12- what would your life be like without art and music?

R. La verdad no me lo imagino, creo que de ser así me hubiera tenido que adaptar completamente al entorno en el que vivo, ya estaría casado y con hijos jajaja. Quizás no me hubiera importado, pero como ya lo estoy viviendo oír música y dibujar es lo que mas me gusta hacer.
A. The truth is that I can't imagine it, I think that if that were the case I would have had to adapt completely to the environment in which I live, I would be married and with children lol.
Maybe I wouldn't have cared, but since I'm already living, listening to music and drawing is what I like to do the most.
