My name is Dexter Cockburn and I'm an Underground Cartoonist & publisher. I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Along with my own work, I've published comix by Aaron Lange, Carrie Q. Contrary, Hugo Schifoso, Jordan (Jay Bee) Bursach, Robin Bougie, Eric Peterson, Milton Knight, and others. My goals are to do my part to keep the Underground Comix movement alive and well.
Mi nombre es Dexter Cockburn y soy dibujante y editor de Underground.
Vivo en Vancouver, BC, Canadá.

1- First, it was the drawing. Music helps me draw, but I was drawing long before my musical tastes developed. Now, though, the music and drawing are becoming equally important.

2- I have found that people like what I draw, and they enjoy my comix, so it was just natural; that I decided to make my art a second career. I have a full-time job that doesn't involve drawing, so being able to draw in my spare time is a nice break from reality.

3- Mostly myself, because I self-publish my work. I've also done covers and illustrations for BUTTRAG MAG, SNUFF COMIX, GUMS & TONGUE, GIRLS & CORPSES, WHUDDAFUG, and FLABBY DAGGER, logos for XXX star Larkin Love, and Arizona punkers All City Warning, as well as a lot of private commissions.

10ch10c- How are your designs developed, from the idea to the final result? / 10ch10c- ¿Cómo se desarrollan sus diseños, desde la idea hasta el resultado final?
4- Usually I get the idea in my head right away - I'm very good at imagining the final product. I do all my inking and lettering by hand (I'm also a sign maker by trade), and then I'll colour the final art on the computer. I use MS-Paint, because I love to use flat colours instead of colours with a lot of Photoshop effects.

5- I have quite a number of characters I've developed. The most popular ones would be the blonde sex-bomb, Pippa Creme, Fudster Pudwhacker, Bosco the Bear from ANIMAL ANTICS, The Adventure Club, busty super-heroine, The Merry Widow, and space adventurer, Marty Marz. After those, I probably have another 60 minor characters.

6- I used to do a lot of band posters when I was a bartender at a club with a lot of live acts. I did posters for Red Light Boom, and Just a Bunch of Guys for a few years. Right now, I'm working on a shirt logo for All City Warning, a really great punk band from Arizona.

7- I love all music, but my all time favourite band would be Pink Floyd. I've seen them 7 times in concert on their Momentary Lapse... and Division Bell tours. I also listen to the Sex Pistols, Roxy Music, Zeppelin, Porcupine Tree, Sparks, and more bands than I have room to list!

8- Outside of Pink Floyd, my best concert was David Bowie in 1990. We camped out all night in the freezing cold to get tickets, and the show was incredible. It was his Sound + Vision tour and was supposed to be the last time he'd be playing his hits in concert. A university pal even caught Adrian Belew's guitar pick!

9- I am most influenced by Robert Crumb, almost to the point where I don't even try to hide my influence. I'm also a huge fan of Will Elder, Wally Wood, Milton Knight, Jay Lynch, Robert Williams, and many others.

10- I just want there to be a sense of fun. I try not to draw anything mean. I try to reach the fans who love adult comix, and who don't mind looking at funny cartoon characters having sex!

11- Sometimes I script as I go along. Or I'll come up with new lines, so I'll just add in an extra page. I have a strange way of doing comics: sometimes I start by drawing the middle page, and then go from there. It always works out in the end!

12- I have to censor my work if I'm posting on social media - I've been banned from Facebook more times than I can count, and have had Deviantart remove certain posts - but everything else I do for my fans & customers is UNCENSORED. I don't believe in censorship. I believe that people have a right to express their ideas, and if other people don't agree, then they don't have to look or listen.

13- 95% of my work revolves around sex. I love sex! I love to make it fun when I draw, and also when I'm having sex. Sex should never be serious!

14- Dexter's life would be VERY boring. Art & music help to define the person I am, so without those there wouldn't be a Dexter as we know him!
