1- Thank you for having me on this project! I'm from the SF Bay Area, South San Francisco specifically. It's not merely the South part of San Francisco, it's a different city all together. But I associate more with the Oakland and SF punk/metal scene more than anything here in SSF. SSF is a boring place. Oakland and SF is where the art and music scene thrives more despite big tech money gentrifying the place and pricing out a lot of artists/musicians over the last decade.

I'm not sure if I ever did take art seriously. Depends on your definition of what serious is. I do seriously get passionate and dedicated to whatever projects I find my rhythm in at the moment . Like it's a hobby I could enjoy for however long I live. But at the same time I'm pretty laid back as far as the business aspect goes (never pursued it hard) or getting too obsessive over textbook training and technique. Among my art friends that went to art school and tried to make careers out of being an artist, I'm just some outsider weirdo creating weird crap for the hell of it.

Soy de SF Bay Area, South San Francisco específicamente. 

No es simplemente la parte sur de San Francisco, es una ciudad completamente diferente. 

Pero me asocio más con la escena punk / metal de Oakland y SF que con nada aquí en SSF. 

SSF es un lugar aburrido. 

Oakland y SF es donde la escena del arte y la música prospera más a pesar del gran dinero tecnológico que gentrificó el lugar y puso un precio a muchos artistas / músicos en la última década.

No estoy seguro de si alguna vez tomé en serio el arte. 

Depende de tu definición de lo serio que es. 

Realmente me apasiono y me dedico a cualquier proyecto en el que encuentre mi ritmo en este momento. 

Como si fuera un pasatiempo que podría disfrutar por el tiempo que viva. 

Pero al mismo tiempo, estoy bastante relajado en lo que respecta al aspecto comercial (nunca lo perseguí demasiado) o me obsesiono demasiado con el entrenamiento y la técnica de los libros de texto. 

Entre mis amigos de arte que fueron a la escuela de arte y trataron de hacer carreras de ser un artista, solo soy un extraño que crea basura extraña por el placer de hacerlo.

2- what are the graphic arts you control?
2- ¿Cuáles son las artes gráficas que controlas?

If you mean what mediums I use/control, I use various sharpies, prisma color markers, pilot v5 pens, and acrylic paint, just whatever I can get my hands on that works. I know some artists are finicky only using micron for everything, but I'm pretty flexible with what I can use to a degree. I used to experiment with crayon before, which I wouldn't recommend. The colors fade and can't blend well.

Si te refieres a los medios que uso / control, utilizo varios sharpies, marcadores de color prisma, bolígrafos piloto v5 y pintura acrílica, todo lo que pueda tener en mis manos funciona. 

Sé que algunos artistas son quisquillosos solo usando micras para todo, pero soy bastante flexible con lo que puedo usar hasta cierto punto. 

Solía ​​experimentar con lápices de colores antes, lo cual no recomendaría.

3- What do you specialize in when you draw?

I find I specialize in melted surreal skulls and demons ripping up people. Sometimes it's a metaphor or social commentary, other times it's simply for catharsis sake. Something about seeing a brutal piece of work is humbling to the ego and  lifts away whatever frustrations/depression I'm dealing with at the moment. Also been trying to incorporate more mechanical/machinery stuff. I work on a lot of appliance repairs for a living so been finding myself incorporating some industrial elements in illustrations. Your art will reflect what you deal with on a daily basis at some point it seems.

Me parece que me especializo en cráneos surrealistas derretidos y demonios destrozando a la gente. 

A veces es una metáfora o comentario social, otras veces es simplemente por el bien de la catarsis. 

Algo sobre ver una obra brutal es humillante para el ego y elimina cualquier frustración / depresión con la que estoy lidiando en este momento. 

También he estado tratando de incorporar más material mecánico / maquinaria. 

Trabajo en muchas reparaciones de electrodomésticos para vivir, así que me he encontrado incorporando algunos elementos industriales en las ilustraciones. 

Su arte reflejará lo que trata a diario en algún momento parece.

4- I see that you use pointillism a lot.

I will have an idea of something to draw like an Evil Giant Ronald Regan robot or some kind of Melting Demon Skull. I'll especially have some idea beforehand if it's a band commission where I need to incorporate a certain theme/concept, but beyond having that, nothing else is planned. There's no exact image in my head I'm trying to re-create so I'm as surprised by the end product as anyone else. I simply get lost in the motion and let something beyond my imagination unfold. All the dots and lines are like looking into the clouds. If a part of the cloud looks like a face I'll build on that and see where it goes from there. Every other aspect of life in society is bombarded with constant planning and preparation so with art (at least with me) it's a completely liberating experience where you are able to act on impulse, tapping into something that flows naturally rather than a contrived attempt at making something exact. My art is more shaped by mood than rigid planning really. Imagine walking up a normal stair case, people don't realize how much they DON'T think each step out, it's just one thoughtless fluid motion. But if you think too much about every step and obsess over your coordination you're bound to trip. That's pretty much what art is to me. Don't think too much, just draw. Which sounds weird if you try to explain, but make sense when you simply experience it.

Tendré una idea de algo para dibujar, como un robot Evil Giant Ronald Regan o algún tipo de Melting Demon Skull. 

Especialmente tendré alguna idea de antemano si se trata de una comisión de banda donde necesito incorporar un determinado tema / concepto, pero más allá de tener eso, no hay nada más planeado. 

No hay una imagen exacta en mi cabeza que estoy tratando de recrear, así que estoy tan sorprendido por el producto final como cualquier otra persona. 

Simplemente me pierdo en el movimiento y dejo que se desarrolle algo más allá de mi imaginación. 

Todos los puntos y líneas son como mirar hacia las nubes. 

Si una parte de la nube parece una cara, construiré sobre eso y veré a dónde va desde allí. 

Todos los demás aspectos de la vida en la sociedad son bombardeados con una planificación y preparación constantes, por lo que con el arte (al menos para mí) es una experiencia completamente liberadora en la que puedes actuar por impulso, aprovechando algo que fluye naturalmente en lugar de un intento artificial de hacer 

Algo exacto. 

Mi arte está más formado por el estado de ánimo que la planificación rígida realmente. 

Imagínese subiendo una escalera normal, la gente no se da cuenta de cuánto NO piensan cada paso, es solo un movimiento fluido irreflexivo. 

Pero si piensas demasiado en cada paso y te obsesionas con tu coordinación, estás obligado a tropezar. 

Eso es más o menos lo que el arte es para mí. 

No pienses demasiado, solo dibuja. 

Lo que suena extraño si intentas explicarlo, pero tiene sentido cuando simplemente lo experimentas.

5- Who comes first in your life? 

the music or the drawing?

5- ¿Quién vino primero a tu vida?

la musica o el dibujo?

They go hand in hand in my world, can't have one without the other. Although I will go to a concert instead of staying home to draw because drawing I could do some other day. Seeing a certain band in town is an opportunity you can't miss cause who knows when your next chance will be to see them? So in that instance the music comes first.

Van de la mano en mi mundo, no pueden tener uno sin el otro. 

Aunque iré a un concierto en lugar de quedarme en casa para dibujar porque dibujar podría hacerlo algún otro día. 

Ver a cierta banda en la ciudad es una oportunidad que no puedes dejar pasar porque quién sabe cuándo será tu próxima oportunidad de verlos. 

Entonces, en ese caso, la música es lo primero.

6- What are your favorite bands?
6- Cuales son tus bandas favoritas?

That's always such a hard question for me cause I'm all over the place with music haha. I listen to tons of death metal  like Cryptopsy (None So Vile era), Demilich, Mortician, Pestilence, Intestine Baalism, Cianide, Grave, Pungent Stench, Disembowelment etc. As well as thrash (Slayer), crust punk (Dystopia), punk (Bad Brains, No Trend, Flipper), grindcore (Terrorizer), sludge (Acid Bath!), black metal (Bathory, Archgoat, and Ulver) and classic metal like Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath but ultimately I'd say NIN and Godflesh are my fav bands. They both can contrast heaviness with a good sense of melody and experimentation. Aphex Twin, Tangerine Dream, Herbie Hancock, Merzbow, Nik Pascal, Miles Davis, Sun Ra, 2pac, Bone Thugs N Harmony,  Boards of Canada, Com Truise, Flying Lotus, Autechre, are some other misc. jazz, noise, ambient, electronic, and hip hop favs. Also gotta admit I'm a huge fan of "alternative" stuff most people rip on like Nirvana, Tool, Korn, Slipknot, Failure, Alice in Chains, Deftones, and Mudvayne. Mudvayne's L.D. 50 album which is still a masterpiece to me, was my gateway to heavier music when I was 15. I remember having a period in my early 20's hating that stuff and calling it "poser crap" but that anti-mainstream phase flew by and I found myself listening to the music I listened to through high school again,

Esa es siempre una pregunta muy difícil para mí porque estoy por todas partes con música jaja. 

Escucho toneladas de death metal como Criptopsia (era None So Vile), Demilich, Mortician, Pestilence, Intestine Baalism, Cianide, Grave, Pungent Stench, Disembowelment, etc., así como thrash (Slayer), crust punk (Dystopia), punk 

(Bad Brains, No Trend, Flipper), grindcore (Terrorizer), fango (Acid Bath!), Black metal (Bathory, Archgoat y Ulver) y metal clásico como Iron Maiden y Black Sabbath, pero finalmente diría NIN y Godflesh 

son mis bandas favoritas 

Ambos pueden contrastar la pesadez con un buen sentido de la melodía y la experimentación.

El álbum 50, que sigue siendo una obra maestra para mí, fue mi puerta de entrada a la música más pesada cuando tenía 15 años. Recuerdo que tuve un período en mis primeros 20 años odiando esas cosas y llamándolo "basura" pero esa fase anti-mainstream pasó volando y yo 

me encontré escuchando la música que escuché en la escuela secundaria nuevamente,

7- what bands have you worked for?
7- ¿para qué bandas has trabajado?

Haven't really worked with much bands come to think of it, unless flyer art counts. Bands I've done flyers for: Eyehategod, Noothrgrush, Necrot, Swamp Witch, Mortuous, Defecrator, and Cartilage come to mind. Did tshirt designs for Prizehog, Cease, Bog Oak, and Demonsmoke. As for album art did the 1st Gatecreeper ep, the two Caffa tape covers, a Meth Drinker and Leechfeast split, cover for rad a punk band Gnarvana, backcover for Blood Freak's Squalor album, a Grinchfinger split, cover for a grindcore band called "Eat Shit", and I think my friend Paul from Godstomper used one of my doodles for a release. I don't remember what it was, neither does he, I don't think he even remembers all his releases haha. I also do all the art for my own music project Xtroszek, which is experimental electronic noise stuff. I suck at playing real instruments and honestly feel like there isn't as much sonic exploration left with punk or metal alone (I hope some band out of nowhere can prove me wrong though!). The electronic stuff can lead to sounds and atmospheres I can never have imagined before. The process of creating music through computer programming is the same exact feel and mindset for me as drawing or painting. No planned idea in mind, just dive right in, playing around with patterns until something I can chill to forms.

Realmente no he trabajado con muchas bandas ahora que lo pienso, a menos que el arte del volante cuente. 

Bandas para las que he hecho volantes: Eyehategod, Noothrgrush, Necrot, Swamp Witch, Mortuous, Defecrator y Cartilage me vienen a la mente. 

Hice diseños de camisetas para Prizehog, Cease, Bog Oak y Demonsmoke. 

En cuanto a la carátula del álbum, hizo el primer episodio de Gatecreeper, las dos portadas de cinta de Caffa, una división de Meth Drinker y Leechfeast, portada para una banda punk Gnarvana, contraportada para el álbum Squalor de Blood Freak, una división de Grinchfinger, portada para una banda de grindcore llamada "Eat" 

Mierda ", y creo que mi amigo Paul de Godstomper usó uno de mis garabatos para un lanzamiento. 

No recuerdo lo que fue, tampoco él, no creo que recuerde todos sus lanzamientos jaja. 

También hago todo el arte para mi propio proyecto musical Xtroszek, que es material experimental de ruido electrónico. 

Apesta tocar instrumentos reales y honestamente siento que no queda tanta exploración sonora con punk o metal solo (¡espero que alguna banda de la nada pueda demostrar que estoy equivocado!). 

Las cosas electrónicas pueden generar sonidos y atmósferas que nunca podría haber imaginado antes. 

El proceso de crear música a través de la programación de computadoras es para mí la misma sensación y mentalidad exactas que para dibujar o pintar. 

No tengo en mente ninguna idea planificada, solo sumérgete, jugando con los patrones hasta que algo pueda relajarme.

8- What was the best concert you saw? 

remember why?

8- ¿Cuál fue el mejor concierto que viste?

¿Recuerdas por qué?

Steve Vai at the world famous Fillmore in SF. He's an amazing guitar player but not exactly my favorite music of all time. I was so amazed by that show though. To see that guitar shredding energy flow through one person naturally was mindblowing. He also had this insane hypnotic screen projection in the background and lazers shooting from his guitar. Funny thing is I didn't even plan on going to that show. My guitarist friends from Canada happened to be visiting town and wanted to meet up there. I think I actually enjoyed the show more than them haha. John Carpenter's live shows come to mind too. Always loved his soundtrack work so it was a real treat seeing him rocking out live in front of this trippy film projection set up showing all the films he directed. I was on shrooms too which really helps you get lost in the moment and suck in the intensity of the experience.

Steve Vai en el mundialmente famoso Fillmore en SF. 

Es un guitarrista increíble, pero no es exactamente mi música favorita de todos los tiempos. 

Sin embargo, me sorprendió mucho ese espectáculo. 

Ver que la guitarra trituraba el flujo de energía a través de una persona, naturalmente, era alucinante. 

También tenía esta loca proyección de pantalla hipnótica en el fondo y disparos de su guitarra. 

Lo curioso es que ni siquiera planeé ir a ese espectáculo. 

Mis amigos guitarristas de Canadá estaban visitando la ciudad y querían encontrarse allí. 

Creo que realmente disfruté el espectáculo más que ellos jaja. 

También me vienen a la mente los shows en vivo de John Carpenter. 

Siempre me encantó su trabajo de banda sonora, así que fue un verdadero placer verlo rockear en vivo frente a esta trippy película de proyección que muestra todas las películas que dirigió. 

También estuve en hongos, lo que realmente te ayuda a perderte en el momento y absorber la intensidad de la experiencia.

9- Do you follow the drawings of other cartoonists? who are they?

9- ¿Sigues los dibujos de otros dibujantes?

¿Quienes son?

Yeah, mostly I follow my "Thursday drawing night" group. I feel like every region should have some sort of weekly art hangout to get a sense of an artistic community where ideas can be exchangged and inspiration could keep going. The Thursday night thing has been a tradition for about 20 years and was started by Mike Reger of Mission Mini Comix. We just show up at his place to draw whatever while listening to music (mostly punk or rap from Mike's CD collection), passing the bong around, talking about philosophy, science, politics, art projects, collaborations, movies, personal drama like sex and relationships or work stress, all kinds of stuff. It's almost like a therapy session with The Breakfast Club. Or actually we're more like a family. Besides Mike Reger, other artists there are Cameron Forsley (my tattoo artist who does a lot of S.Clay Wilson and R. Crumb inspired detailed ink work), Paul Sand (he can do both fine art and underground comix)  and Hayden Currie (does psychedelic surrealistic cartoon stuff).

Sí, sobre todo sigo a mi grupo "Thursday drawing night ". 

Siento que cada región debería tener algún tipo de reunión de arte semanal para tener una idea de una comunidad artística donde las ideas pueden intercambiarse y la inspiración podría continuar. 

La cosa del jueves por la noche ha sido una tradición durante unos 20 años y fue iniciada por Mike Reger de Mission Mini Comix. 

Simplemente nos presentamos en su lugar para dibujar lo que sea mientras escuchamos música (principalmente punk o rap de la colección de CD de Mike), pasamos el bong, hablamos de filosofía, ciencia, política, proyectos de arte, colaboraciones, películas, drama personal como el sexo y 

relaciones o estrés laboral, todo tipo de cosas. 

Es casi como una sesión de terapia con The Breakfast Club. 

O en realidad somos más como una familia. 

Además de Mike Reger, otros artistas son Cameron Forsley (mi artista del tatuaje que hace mucho trabajo detallado de tinta inspirada en S.Clay Wilson y R. Crumb), Paul Sand (puede hacer obras de arte y comix underground) y Hayden Currie ( 

hace cosas de dibujos animados surrealistas psicodélicos).

10- How would your life be without art and music?
10- ¿Cómo sería tu vida sin arte y música?

Hard to imagine, they're an inherent part of my existence. All the friends I made and excuses to do anything really are related to art in some way. Even just going out to eat dinner is related to art cause I'll end up going to a 24hr coffee shop afterwards with a sketchbook to draw for hours (I sometimes need a break from doing all my drawing in my apartment).

Maybe I'd be like my ex-roommate. He never cared for the arts or music and had a very meaningless life of consuming massive amounts of junk food and playing video games for hours to distract himself from his emptiness. Or maybe I'd just invest money for the sake of investing in even more investments. Or maybe I'd just be "normal" and start a family that goes on living for the sake of creating another family that will create another family so on and so forth. Just a constant quest of survival and reproduction. Which reminds me of a quote from my favorite philosopher Alan Watts,

"We thought of life by analogy with a journey, with a pilgrimage, which had a serious purpose at the end, and the thing was to get to that end: success, or whatever it is, or maybe heaven after you’re dead. But we missed the point the whole way along.

It was a musical thing — and you were supposed to sing, or dance, while the music was being played."

Difícil de imaginar, son una parte inherente de mi existencia. 

Todos los amigos que hice y las excusas para hacer algo realmente están relacionados con el arte de alguna manera. 
Incluso solo salir a cenar está relacionado con el arte porque terminaré yendo a una cafetería las 24 horas después con un cuaderno de bocetos para dibujar durante horas (a veces necesito un descanso de hacer todo mi dibujo en mi apartamento).
Tal vez sería como mi ex compañero de cuarto. 
Nunca se preocupó por las artes o la música y tuvo una vida sin sentido de consumir grandes cantidades de comida chatarra y jugar videojuegos durante horas para distraerse de su vacío. 
O tal vez solo invertiría dinero por invertir en aún más inversiones. 
O tal vez simplemente sería "normal" y comenzaría una familia que sigue viviendo por el bien de crear otra familia que creará otra familia, etc. 
Solo una búsqueda constante de supervivencia y reproducción. 
Lo que me recuerda una cita de mi filósofo favorito Alan Watts,
"Pensamos en la vida por analogía con un viaje, con una peregrinación, que tenía un propósito serio al final, y el objetivo era llegar a ese fin: el éxito, o lo que sea, o tal vez el cielo después de la muerte. 
Pero perdimos el punto todo el camino.
Era algo musical, y se suponía que debías cantar o bailar mientras se tocaba la música ".
