1. Me llamo Raúl González, tengo 37 de edad, me dedico profesionalmente a la ilustración de género de terror y fantasia, soy de Barcelona, donde tengo mi studio y trabajo allí, haciendo encargos sobretodo para bandas de música Heavy Metal y Death Metal. También he hecho trabajos para juegos de rol, ese fue mi inicio en mi carrera profesional.

1. My name is Raúl González, I am 37 years old, I dedicate myself professionally to the illustration of horror and fantasy genre, I am from Barcelona, ​​where I have my studio and work there, making assignments especially for Heavy Metal and Death Metal bands. I have also done work for role-playing games, that was my start in my professional career.

2- como comenzaste a dibujar y desde cuando te dedicas al arte de bandas? 
2- How did you start drawing and since when do you dedicate yourself to the art of bands?

2. Pues todo comenzó de muy chico, cuando mis padres me dieron algo de dinero y vi unos comics de la Marvel de los 70s con arte de George Perez o John Byrne, cosas como the Avengers, Wherewolf by Night, etc.. y me voló la cabeza,  me compré todo lo que podia y me alcanzaba , eran cosas muy baratas no como ahora que los comics son objetos de coleccionismo , luego más tarde viendo las portadas en vinilo de bandas como Iron Maiden o Dio, pues simplemente me flipaba y me transportaba a otro mundo y yo queria hacer ese tipo de dibujo, no se porqué , me imagino que fue una afición que luego me fui tomando muy enserio y poco a poco pues fui descubriendo que eso es lo que queria hacer.

2. Well, it all started when I was very young, when my parents gave me some money and I saw some Marvel comics from the 70s with art by George Perez or John Byrne, things like the Avengers, Wherewolf by Night, etc ... and I 

He flew my head, I bought everything I could and it reached me, they were very cheap things not like now that the comics are collectibles, then later seeing the vinyl covers of bands like Iron Maiden or Dio, because I just freaked out and I was transported to another world and I wanted to do that kind of drawing, I don't know why, I imagine it was a hobby that I then took very seriously and little by little because I was discovering that this is what I wanted to do.

3. Mi primer encargo en cuanto a bandas fue para Razorback Records, hice unas cuantas ilustraciones para el segundo trabajo de Frightmare, el booklet en concreto, luego hice otras cosas más relacionadas con merchandise y así otras bandas me imagino que vieron esto y poco a poco iba trabajando con más bandas sobretodo de Death Metal: Deceased, Skeletonwitch, Morbus Chron, Horrendous, Crucified Mortals, Sarcasm, etc…

3. My first assignment in terms of bands was for Razorback Records, I made a few illustrations for Frightmare's second work, the booklet in particular, then I did other things more related to merchandise and so other bands I imagine they saw this and little to Little was working with more bands especially Death Metal: Deceased, Skeletonwitch, Morbus Chron, Horrendous, Crucified Mortals, Sarcasm, etc ...

4- cuales son tus bandas favoritas?

4. Me gustan muchos estilos de música, escucho desde Nick Cave y Joy Division a Morbid Angel o Emerson Lake and Palmer, pero si tuviera que decir lo que a mi me inspiró desde un principio eran albums como Peace Sells o Rust In Peace de Megadeth , que para mi son increibles.

4. I like many styles of music, I listen from Nick Cave and Joy Division to Morbid Angel or Emerson Lake and Palmer, but if I had to say what inspired me from the beginning they were albums like Peace Sells or Rust In Peace by Megadeth, which for me are incredible.

5- que bandas recomiendas de tu entorno?

5. Con las que he trabajado, me gustan todas, la verdad, todas tienen algo interesante.  Quizás Deceased por ser todo un clásico del underground y luego los tristemente separados, Morbus Chron son de las bandas que más me han sorprendido, pero sería injusto solo nombrar estas dos, también me gustó mucho The Chills de Horrendous, ese trabajo es sencillamente magistral.

5. With which I have worked, I like them all, the truth, they all have something interesting. 

Maybe Deceased for being a classic underground and then the sadly separated, Morbus Chron are the bands that have surprised me the most, but it would be unfair to just name these two, I also really liked The Chills of Horrendous, that work is simply masterful.

6- que debe tener una ilustracion tuya para dejarte conforme?
6- What should an illustration of you have to leave you satisfied?

6. Que no dejen indiferente, me gusta que me den libertad para crear lo que a mi me gustaria ver en una portada, a veces no es así, ya que la banda te pide cosas muy especificas y ya no es algo que sea muy orgánico , pero siempre intento buscar un equilibrio entre lo que me piden y lo que a mi me sale de forma natural, no es como si hicera pizzas, para mi esto tiene que ser algo que la gente vea y piense que es algo único y especial.

6. Do not leave indifferent, I like to give me freedom to create what I would like to see on a cover, sometimes it is not so, since the band asks you very specific things and is no longer something that is very organic, but I always try to find a balance between what they ask me and what comes naturally to me, it's not like I made pizzas, for me this has to be something that people see and think is something unique and special.

7- cuales son los estilos de las bandas para las que ilustras? 
7- what are the bands useful for which you illustrate?

7. Generalmente Death Metal de old school , como las bandas de finales de los 80s y principios de los 90s con ese sonido típico de Florida como Obituary o Morbid Angel.

7. Generally old school Death Metal, like the bands of the late 80s and early 90s with that typical Florida sound like Obituary or Morbid Angel.

8- cual fue el mejor concierto que viste y porque?
8- what was the best concert you saw and why?

8. Pues te voy a decir King Diamond, en la gira  de su disco House of God, yo tenia 18 o 19 de edad, y el show empezó con las dos primeras canciones del album Them que yo adoro. Y fue un momento que aún recuerdo y alucino.

8. Well, I'm going to tell you King Diamond, on the tour of his album House of God, I was 18 or 19 years old, and the show started with the first two songs from the Them album that I adore. 

And it was a moment that I still remember and hallucinate.

9- sigues las ilustraciones de otros dibujantes? Quienes son? 

9- do you follow the illustrations of other artists? Who are they?

9. Claro que sí, me gusta mucho Skinner, Wes Benscoter, Dan Seagrave, Jimbo Philips, Cesar Valladares, Jeff Zornow, Mike Sutfin, Seguro que me dejo muchos más.

10- cual es el trabajo que aun no has hecho y que haria sentir consagrado? 
10- what is the work that you have not done yet and that would make you feel consecrated?

10. No tengo ni idea, generalmente no pienso en eso, solo pienso en hacer las cosas lo mejor posible y esforzarme para realizar algo interesante y excitante cada vez.

10. I have no idea, I generally don't think about that, I just think about doing my best and striving to do something interesting and exciting every time.

11- como se desarrollan tus ilustraciones? Desde la idea hasta los retoques con programas.

11- how do your illustrations develop? From the idea to the retouching with programs.

11. Empiezo con una serie de bocetos, y luego voy perfilando la idea, la comento con el cliente y depende de si le gusta o no voy modificando el dibujo hasta llegar a una idea sólida que sea aprobada . Cuando tengo el dibujo bien definido lo calco en un papel para pintar bien grueso que me permita usar muchas capas de pintura, entonces me dedico como dos semanas pintando , el size de mis trabajos generalmente es de 50 x 50 cm. Luego escaneo la pintura y la traslado a Photoshop donde tengo que corregir todo lo que sean errores de color del escaneo. Me gusta que sea todo lo más fiel posible a mi pintura original.

11. I start with a series of sketches, and then I outline the idea, I discuss it with the client and it depends on whether he likes it or not I modify the drawing until it reaches a solid idea that is approved. 

When I have the well-defined drawing, I trace it on a very thick paint paper that allows me to use many layers of paint, so I spend about two weeks painting, the size of my work is generally 50 x 50 cm. 

Then I scan the painting and move to Photoshop where I have to correct everything that is color errors of the scan. 

I like it to be as faithful as possible to my original painting.

12- como seria tu vida sin arte y musica?
12- what would your life be like without art and music?

12. Pues me imagino que como todo el mundo, sería una vida muy gris. Yo soy de los que piensan que el arte es algo vital para el ser humano que nos conecta a un nivel intelectual y espiritual y da sentido a nuestras vidas, nos da un camino por donde no perdernos, yo al menos hablo de mi propia experiencia, creo que para mucha gente la música , por ejemplo, es algo donde canalizar muchas emociones que de otro modo no es posible, ni inluso se puede expresar eso que se desea hablando, pero la música tiene esa capacidad, no estoy diciendo que esto sea para todo el mundo, pero estoy seguro que para muchas personas es así. Yo por ejemplo me siento en harmonia mirando mis ilustraciones favoritas de mis artistas favoritos, sobretodo cuando estás muy desmotivado y necesitas una inyección de energia e inspiración.

12. Well, I imagine that like everyone else, it would be a very gray life. 

I am one of those who think that art is something vital for the human being that connects us to an intellectual and spiritual level and gives meaning to our lives, gives us a way to not get lost, I at least talk about my own experience, 

I think that for many people music, for example, is something to channel many emotions that otherwise is not possible, or even what you want to speak can be expressed, but music has that capacity, I am not saying that this is for 

everyone, but I am sure that for many people it is like that. 

For example, I feel in harmony looking at my favorite illustrations of my favorite artists, especially when you are very demotivated and need an injection of energy and inspiration.
