Hi, my name is Fabik (Mariusz Fabiszewski). I'm originally from Poland but since 2007 I have lived in Edinburgh, Scotland.I'm self-taught artist, blending different styles and mediums, but mostly specialize in inkwork, ink graphics and acrylics.
Hola, mi nombre es Fabik (Mariusz Fabiszewski). Soy originario de Polonia, pero desde 2007 he vivido en Edimburgo, Escocia.Soy artista autodidacta, mezclando diferentes estilos y medios, pero principalmente me especializo en tinta, gráficos de tinta y acrílicos.
2- since when do you dedicate yourself to drawing, and since when do you link art with music?

Oh,that's a good one! Last few years were more dedicated and focused on my artwork than before but I loved drawing since I remember. Of course, as a teenager, when I discovered punk/hardcore etc all that scribbling / drawing got different meaning and got to another level - by making fanzines, stencil graffiti etc. My and my two pals made our first punk zine (Dreadzone) in 1989, when I was 17, so quiet quickly the whole punk/hc/animal rights/antifascist agenda took over my life,haha!😀
Later on, in 1996 we created another local fanzine, plus I released a few local artzines/projects (Neuroza, Mortuus) and done numerous mini-books of poetry. So pretty much all that drawing was always threading through things i got involved with.
¡Oh, eso es bueno! Los últimos años fueron más dedicados y centrados en mi obra de arte que antes, pero me encantó dibujar desde que recuerdo. 3- What passion do you discover first, art or music?
3- ¿Qué pasión descubres primero, el arte o la música?
Hard one to tell but i think art was first because as any other kid I could create my world on a paper which is like first real "kick" of freedom, if you like. But then obviously - as I said before - music and message in it took everything to another level. And changed my life completly. So these days it's somewhere inbetween these two worlds - depends on exact day or moment - one or another can dominate for a short period😀
Difícil de contar, pero creo que el arte fue lo primero porque, como cualquier otro niño, pude crear mi mundo en un papel que es como la primera "patada" real de libertad, si se quiere. Pero luego, obviamente, como dije antes, la música y el mensaje en ella llevaron todo a otro nivel. Y cambió mi vida por completo. Así que en estos días está en algún lugar entre estos dos mundos, depende del día o momento exacto, uno u otro puede dominar durante un corto período😀
4-What are your favorite bands?
4-¿Cuáles son tus bandas favoritas?
There's no way I could mention all of my favourite bands!Too many of them were so important in my life. They changed my way of seeing and feeling the world that surrounded me. Thanks to them I've become vegetarian, got myself involved in many antifascist, pro-animal actions etc.
But definitely I wouldn't be "me" today without bands like: Dezerter, Moskwa, Karcer, Conflict, CRASS, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, Subhumans, Discharge, Bad Brains, Neurosis, Minor Threat - they shaped me when I was younger.
Thanks to the always evolving punk scene across the world, I still find many bands that inspire me! Still plenty of original stuff out there!
¡No hay forma de que pueda mencionar a todas mis bandas favoritas! Demasiados de ellos fueron tan importantes en mi vida. Cambiaron mi forma de ver y sentir el mundo que me rodeaba. Gracias a ellos me he vuelto vegetariano, me he involucrado en muchas acciones antifascistas, pro-animales, etc. Pero definitivamente no sería "yo" hoy sin bandas como: Dezerter, Moskwa, Karcer, Conflict, CRASS, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, Subhumans, Discharge, Bad Brains, Neurosis, Minor Threat, me formaron cuando era más joven. Gracias a la siempre cambiante escena punk en todo el mundo, ¡todavía encuentro muchas bandas que me inspiran! ¡Todavía hay muchas cosas originales por ahí!

Right now, living in Scotland for the past 14 years I've seen few bands coming and going, but at the moment it's hard to tell - because of the pandemic all gigs are very rare, everything just slowly starting to happen again.
But obviously I would reccomend Oi Polloi, Dissaffect, Brain Anguish, Buzzbomb, Happy Spastics, Down To Kill, Bratakus, Billy Liar - just to mention a few.
Before all that pandemic shit hit the fan you could see quite few things happening in the local scene but it is really hard to judge right now. Hope for good because people are quite hungry for gigs and that kind of stuff.
En este momento, viviendo en Escocia durante los últimos 14 años, he visto pocas bandas ir y venir, pero en este momento es difícil de decir: debido a la pandemia, todos los conciertos son muy raros, todo comienza a suceder lentamente de nuevo. 7- do you follow other cartoonists linked to the underground?
7- ¿sigues a otros dibujantes vinculados al underground?
I don't specifically follow artists/cartoonists linked with underground. I observe constantly all that mixture of graffiti, punk, hardcore artists of course but I like as well to see what's happening with art outside of that circle. Quite a few people that started in a punk scene are now established artists in so-called "official" art world and they helping others to break through as well. I need to admit that nowadays quality and range of artwork connected to the scene is much better and more inspiring than ever!
No sigo específicamente a artistas / dibujantes vinculados con el underground. Observo constantemente toda esa mezcla de graffiti, punk, artistas hardcore, por supuesto, pero también me gusta ver lo que está sucediendo con el arte fuera de ese círculo. Bastantes personas que comenzaron en una escena punk ahora son artistas establecidos en el llamado mundo del arte "oficial" y también ayudan a otros a abrirse paso. ¡Debo admitir que hoy en día la calidad y la gama de obras de arte conectadas a la escena son mucho mejores y más inspiradoras que nunca!
8- you have several portraits of famous people and others not so much, such as: Dick Lucas, Stza, Grabaz, and, Collin de GBH among others. What is your experience as a portraitist?, have you been able to make publications or exhibitions with your material?
8- tienes varios retratos de personajes famosos y otros no tanto, como: Dick Lucas, Stza, Grabaz, y, Collin de GBH entre otros. ¿Cuál es tu experiencia como retratista ?, ¿has podido realizar publicaciones o exposiciones con tu material?
Yes, I do lots of portraits of both "worlds". I like to practise on different subjects but I have to say that those ones connected to alternative music, movies etc are closer to my heart. So there's plenty punk faces on my Instagram account, haha🤣😉
I've focused more on portraits about two years ago. My artwork was published / shared on few other online medias, by other bands or artists etc. I was also a finalist of Contemporary Art Exibition in Scotland. You can see some of my artwork on Society of Scottish Artists website and also on Showcasing Scottish Art website / blog.
Sí, hago muchos retratos de ambos "mundos". Me gusta practicar sobre diferentes temas, pero tengo que decir que aquellos relacionados con la música alternativa, las películas, etc. están más cerca de mi corazón. 9- ¿Qué era el punk para ti hace 30 años y qué significa el punk ahora?
Big question, haha!😀
Over 30 years ago punk become almost everything for me - gave me the confidence that I can do things myself without compromising, gave me friends that became like family, gave me the hope that we can have positive impact on other peoples lives, to change things. It was perfect "vessel" when growing up.
It still feels that way even if I can't be commited to the scene on so many levels as before. It still flows through my veins and keeps me alert and ready, haha😉🤣
¡Gran pregunta, jaja!😀 Hace más de 30 años, el punk se convirtió en casi todo para mí: me dio la confianza de que puedo hacer cosas yo mismo sin comprometerme, me dio amigos que se convirtieron en familia, me dio la esperanza de que podemos tener un impacto positivo en la vida de otras personas, para cambiar las cosas. Era un "recipiente" perfecto cuando crecía. Todavía se siente así, incluso si no puedo comprometerme con la escena en tantos niveles como antes. Todavía fluye por mis venas y me mantiene alerta y listo, jaja😉🤣
10- What would your life be like without art and music?
10- ¿Cómo sería tu vida sin arte y música?
I can't imagine my life any different than this. All those people, music, books, art etc guided me in the direction where I'm today. Even when I look at bad moments that happened in the past - all that stuff shaped us the way we are now. I accept all my faults because they are a part of "full picture"😀.
No puedo imaginar mi vida diferente a esta. Todas esas personas, música, libros, arte, etc. me guiaron en la dirección en la que estoy hoy. Incluso cuando miro los malos momentos que sucedieron en el pasado, todas esas cosas nos moldearon de la manera en que somos ahora. Acepto todas mis faltas porque son parte de la "imagen completa" 😀.
