Cartoonist: Constantinos Pissourios (Versioncos) Interview #82.

1- FIRST: I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING IN THIS INTERVIEW AND SHARING SOME ILLUSTRATIONS OF YOURS. TELL ME WHAT IS YOUR NAME? WHERE ARE YOU FROM, AND WHERE ARE YOU GOING?

1) Thank you for the invitation!
My name is Costantinos Pissourios aka @versioncos14
I come from the Island of Cyprus and i live here as well
Where am i going? well... i try to move forward!

1- PRIMERO: QUIERO AGRADECERTE POR PARTICIPAR EN ESTA ENTREVISTA Y COMPARTIR ALGUNAS ILUSTRACIONES TUYAS. Dime cual es tu nombre ¿DE DÓNDE SOS  Y HACIA DÓNDE VAS? 

1) ¡Gracias por la invitación!
Mi nombre es Costantinos Pissourios alias @ versioncos14
Vengo de la isla de Chipre y también vivo aquí
¿A dónde voy? bueno ... intento seguir adelante!

2- WHAT COMES FIRST TO YOUR LIFE, MUSIC OR ART?

2) In my early childhood Art like drawing was my first and natural expression but now its very difficult to separate the 2. Both Art-forms share the same principles so... yea ,i do get inspired from music and express it through Art (painting,drawing)

2- ¿QUÉ LLEGA PRIMERO A TU VIDA, LA MÚSICA O EL ARTE? 

2) En mi primera infancia, el arte como el dibujo fue mi primera y natural expresión, pero ahora es muy difícil separar los dos. Ambas formas de arte comparten los mismos principios, así que ... sí, me inspiro en la música y la expreso a través del arte (pintura , dibujo)




3- SINCE WHEN DO YOU COMBINE BOTH PASSIONS?

3) I was involved with music and sound for a long time learning various instruments mostly percussions and even building some. Also i am into the Reggae Soundsystem thing which is a big passion of mine i have to say. Collecting records and owning one
(Soundsystem) which me and my son custom built, called “Rhythm in Green Sound”.
So it was really natural for me to combine the two as i was exposed to both, Music and Art almost every day.

3- ¿DESDE CUANDO COMBINAS AMBAS PASIONES? 

3) Estuve involucrado con la música y el sonido durante mucho tiempo aprendiendo varios instrumentos, principalmente percusiones e incluso construyendo algunos. También me gusta el Reggae Soundsystem, que es una gran pasión mía, tengo que decir. Recopilar registros y poseer uno
(Sistema de sonido) que mi hijo y yo construimos a medida, llamado "Ritmo en sonido verde".
Así que fue muy natural para mí combinar los dos, ya que estaba expuesto a ambos, Música y Arte casi todos los días.




4- WHAT ARE THE ARTS THAT YOU CONTROL?

4) As i mentioned before i used to draw a lot from an early age and later i studied fine arts at Central Saint Martins (London) so i would say that drawing is the artform i feel most confident to consider my self as a professional artist/illustrator


4- ¿CUÁLES SON LAS ARTES QUE CONTROLAS? 

4) Como mencioné antes, solía dibujar mucho desde una edad temprana y luego estudié bellas artes en Central Saint Martins (Londres), así que diría que el dibujo es la forma de arte en la que me siento más seguro para considerarme como artista / ilustrador profesional.






5- HAVE YOU DRAWN FOR ANY SINGER / BAND? WHO ARE THEY?

5) Yes, i do commission work, and i try to select projects that i feel inspired by.
I worked with Soundsystem owners like Abracadabra soundsystem (Germany) , High Station Sound (CY), Ras -Efx (UK), Soundsystem Sanskriti (India) and also Record Labels like VP Records and LionsDen. I also did projects with promotion groups from Bermuda, CostaRica, New York, India and various other smaller illustration projects from around the globe.


5- ¿HAS DIBUJADO PARA ALGÚN CANTANTE / BANDA? ¿QUIENES SON? 

5) Sí, hago trabajos por encargo y trato de seleccionar proyectos que me inspiren.
Trabajé con propietarios de Soundsystem como Abracadabra soundsystem (Alemania), High Station Sound (CY), Ras -Efx (Reino Unido), Soundsystem Sanskriti (India) y también sellos discográficos como VP Records y LionsDen. También hice proyectos con grupos de promoción de Bermuda, Costa Rica, Nueva York, India y varios otros proyectos de ilustración más pequeños de todo el mundo.





6- HOW IS AN ILLUSTRATION OF YOURS DEVELOPED? FROM THE IDEA TO THE FINAL RESULT.

6) It starts always as a rough idea/sketch on a piece of paper. That is after i’ve done my research of course. If its a personal work of art i usually get inspired by something for days and then i brainstorm and sketch a lot. Slowly i move into more final decisions and step by step the image appears.

6- ¿CÓMO SE DESARROLLA UNA ILUSTRACIÓN TUYA? DE LA IDEA AL RESULTADO FINAL. 

6) Comienza siempre como una idea aproximada / boceto en una hoja de papel. Eso es después de haber hecho mi investigación, por supuesto. Si es una obra de arte personal, por lo general me inspiro en algo durante días y luego hago una lluvia de ideas y esbozo mucho. Lentamente paso a decisiones más finales y paso a paso aparece la imagen.




7- WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE MUSICIANS?

7) My favorite musicians are those i had the chance to listen to their work and get me inspired or get me influenced in some way. I do like and respect all the great ones of course. It’s difficult to mention some cause there are so many in various music genres.

7- ¿CUÁLES SON TUS MÚSICOS FAVORITOS? 

7) Mis músicos favoritos son aquellos con los que tuve la oportunidad de escuchar su trabajo e inspirarme o influenciarme de alguna manera. Me gustan y respeto a todos los grandes, por supuesto. Es difícil mencionar alguna porque hay tantos en varios géneros musicales.




8- DO YOU FOLLOW OTHER DRAWERS LINKED TO MUSIC?

8) Yes! Definitely i do and i feel really excited that there are so many talented artists around the world spreading positive vibes with their art and unique styles. Wish we could all show our work under one roof some day. Mutual Artical appreciation is a must!

8- ¿SIGUE OTROS CAJONES VINCULADOS A MÚSICA? 

8) ¡Si! Definitivamente lo hago y me siento muy emocionado de que haya tantos artistas talentosos en todo el mundo que difunden vibraciones positivas con su arte y estilos únicos. Ojalá todos pudiéramos mostrar nuestro trabajo bajo un mismo techo algún día. ¡La apreciación artística mutua es imprescindible!




9- WHAT MUSICIANS CAN YOU RECOMMEND FROM YOUR ENVIRONMENT?

9) I listen to anything that keeps me interested, but i love Reggae music!
So from that area i would say all the old vintage stuff from Treasure island, Studio One as a start. Great music!
More specific i was really influenced by King Tubby’s work and of course Lee Perry's because for me it was really a turning point as I realized that the practices they were using to make music/dub are very similar to the practices of making Art.

9- ¿QUÉ MÚSICOS PUEDES RECOMENDAR DE TU ENTORNO? 

9) Escucho todo lo que me mantiene interesado, ¡pero me encanta la música reggae!
Entonces, desde esa área, diría que todas las cosas antiguas de Treasure Island, Studio One como comienzo. ¡Buena música!
Más específicamente, me influenció mucho el trabajo de King Tubby y, por supuesto, el de Lee Perry porque para mí fue un punto de inflexión, ya que me di cuenta de que las prácticas que estaban usando para hacer música / doblaje son muy similares a las prácticas de hacer arte.




10- WHERE HAVE YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS BEEN PUBLISHED? BOOKS, POSTERS, ALBUMS.

10) Most of my work is personal work which i print on high quality paper as posters or prints. I do print on tshirts and slipmats sometimes.
Commission work i did was printed on album covers, tshirts, posters, stickers and digital use on social media.

10- ¿DÓNDE SE HAN PUBLICADO TUS ILUSTRACIONES? LIBROS, CARTELES, ÁLBUMES.

10) La mayor parte de mi trabajo es personal que imprimo en papel de alta calidad como carteles o impresiones. A veces imprimo en camisetas y tapetes.
El trabajo de comisión que hice fue impreso en portadas de álbumes, camisetas, carteles, pegatinas y uso digital en las redes sociales.




11- WHAT WAS THE BEST SHOW YOU SAW? DO YOU REMEMBER WHY?

11) Hahaha as far as music goes my best show/shows was the time i was studying in
London 1996-99 and i was attending the Reggae Soundsystem sessions in Brixton Academy. I was really blown away by the vibes so for me was my best shows in a way.

11- ¿CUÁL FUE EL MEJOR SHOW QUE Viste? ¿RECUERDA POR QUÉ? 

11) Jajaja en lo que respecta a la música, mi mejor programa / programas fue el tiempo en que estudiaba
Londres 1996-99 y asistía a las sesiones de Reggae Soundsystem en Brixton Academy. Estaba realmente impresionado por las vibraciones, así que para mí fueron mis mejores shows de alguna manera.




12- WHAT DOES REGGAE REPRESENT IN YOUR LIFE?

12) Coming from a small island, Cyprus was also under the English colonies like Jamaica was in the 50s. Reggae for me represents the passion and the willingness of the people of such a small place spreading their musical and cultural vibrations of oneness all over the world

12- ¿QUÉ REPRESENTA EL REGGAE EN TU VIDA? 

12) Procedente de una pequeña isla, Chipre también estaba bajo las colonias inglesas como lo estaba Jamaica en los años 50. El reggae para mí representa la pasión y la voluntad de la gente de un lugar tan pequeño difundiendo sus vibraciones musicales y culturales de unidad por todo el mundo.



13- HOW WOULD YOUR LIFE BE WITHOUT ART AND MUSIC?

13) Can’t even consider such a thing cause I didn’t decide to get involved with art. It was something that naturally i was always doing and i will always do. I don’t consider art as a profession as much as a necessity.

13- ¿CÓMO SERÍA TU VIDA SIN ARTE Y MÚSICA?

13) Ni siquiera puedo considerar tal cosa porque no decidí involucrarme con el arte. Era algo que, naturalmente, siempre estaba haciendo y siempre haré. No considero el arte como una profesión tanto como una necesidad.
